Community Fuels to be Featured at California Water Quality Conference
Los Angeles, November 14 – 15, 2007
Lisa Mortenson, CEO for Community Fuels, will present at the California Water Policy Conference 17, Climate of Change: From Sizzle to Substance
Encinitas, California, October 16, 2007— This year the California Water Policy Conference will examine the critical link between climate change and water resources, and Lisa Mortenson, CEO for Community Fuels, will co-present the “Fossil Fuel? Just Get Over It” session. In this session, the following questions will be discussed: What are the greatest obstacles to advancing the use of biodiesel? How necessary is federal leadership and what policies would advance biodiesel and other renewable fuels? What models are working well and how can these be leveraged to industry-wide use? What are the comparative advantages and disadvantages of biodiesel compared to other alternative fuels?
An intense interest in biofuels has developed as a result of high petroleum prices, concerns about the future viability of petroleum resources, and an increasing awareness of the consequences of greenhouse gas emissions associated with fossil fuel combustion. Biodiesel is a clean-burning, renewable fuel produced from agricultural sources (such as vegetable oils and animal fats) that can be used by most compression-ignition (diesel) engines with few or no modifications. Biodiesel can be used with existing industrial equipment and infrastructure, offering an immediate means of offsetting part of the current demand for petroleum-based fuels. Benefits of biodiesel include reduced emissions of greenhouse gasses and other harmful pollutants, enhanced national energy security, job creation, and expanded markets for domestic agricultural products.
The California Water Policy Conference is presented by Public Officials for Water and Environmental Reform and is attended by government officials, water agencies, and business, agricultural and environmental leaders interested in California water policy.
